"Boner 99's debut album "Satan's hairy dick" out now on Earache takes the worst bits out of 70:s and 90:s hard rock and tries to combine them. Imagine simple riffs like Deep Purple's but without the headbanging quality and coolness, played in a 90:s style with samplers and synths (RevCo+Ministry), with a vocalist sounding EVEN MORE constipated than David Byron of Uriah Heep fame. Add to this lyrics on the line: "Satan's dick is hairy, he raped the golden fairy, It all was kinda scary, but it's all over now, Oh Yeah!" The only good thing about the record is that they mercifully leave out the worst of the 80:s Metal, i.e. abominable haircuts, crap ballads and endless guitar solos. None of that here, thank god. I mean if you like RevCo, etc and like Metal singers with extreme tremolo and bright voices, you might even like the record and go and check it out. The attitude is often more like the first one, implying "I'm a famous critic, I don't like this so you shouldn't either, don't buy it!" (Still I think that some of the 50-year-olds out there are a lot more worthwhile listening to than the 20 year olds, have you f.x. listened to the radio programme Blazer, with Stefan Wermelin? He's a brilliant guy and can really open your ears to new stuff. He'll play Bo Diddley and the Nooners in the same programme!) They have this "entertainment"-street where all sorts of bars are placed just next-door to each other. And because of that they are at war with booze-prices. The last time I went there a Gin & Tonic was 6 Danish crowns, and that's kind of value for money, don't you think. Are they playing the 1000 Fryd place? If they are, it's a very cool place and I know they've been there before and liked it. Perhaps it's a bit too small for them nowadays, so it might be that they play the Student House or something like that. Have fun, and I promise you'll enjoy both bob hund and Aalborg. You'll be in love with Good Music 30 seconds into its personality-drenched, instrumental intro cut, "The Cad," with its simple little bouncy organ riff and sassy trumpet part. As a whole, Ray Wonder (a band, not a guy) is a pop outfit with cheekiness to spare. The band's crooning lead singer and melodic sensibility faintly recalls Ben Folds Five, but this group is most definitely Swedish: There's a retro vibe and spades of kitschy cleverness that will remind genre followers of the Cardigans' early releases. At the end of the day, however, Ray Wonder is simply a cagey quartet of pop songwriters, drawing you in with their confectionery sense of fun and then hooking you with truly indelible tunes.
