Here's some details straight from the horse's mouth (no offence), Maria Enzell (in the band): On October 8th we're off to Hollywood where we will participate in an American independent movie - Clubland, director: Mary Lambert (Pet Cemetary 1 & 2 among others). Two songs from Come Now are going to be included on the soundtrack, and we're playing one of them in the movie. They are alos opening for Seahorses (UK) in Stockholm at "Klubben" on October 15th. And playing in Linkoping at Herrgar'n on the Darling Tour on October 21st (a _tuesday_ - can that be right?) together with Fidget, Fivel and Loudean. By the way - next up (on thursday) at Herrgar'n : Backfish! And the usual umm, thing.... For ALL the details about past and upcoming Herrgar'n gigs, scoop up the stuff at: http://www.lysator.liu.se/~chief/hgigs.html (soon with live reviews written by Micke Rehnstrom!) //Erik ----------------------------- Date: Sun, 5 Oct 1997 06:18:48 +0200 (MET DST) From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: Sin's Music on the Radio [06-Oct-97] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scandinavian Indie MUSIC ON THE RADIO Scandinavian Indie October 6 -> 9, 1997 by Erik Soderstrom (chief@lysator.liu.se) Day Date Artist Recorded --- ----- ---------------------------------- ------------------------------- Mon 6/10 Stereophonics Hultsfred, Festival 12-Jun-97 Tue 7/10 Staple Singers Stockholm, Lollipop 25-Jul-97 Wed 8/10 Minimalisterna, Friend & Dr Kosmos Hultsfred, Festival Jun-97 Thu 9/10 Anekdoten Stockholm, Folkoperan 29-Aug-97 This list covers the Swedish National Channel P3's "Live" - at 21.03-22.00 or 18.03-19.00 where marked with a '*'. Hello everyone, I'm a new subscriber to this list, so it's my brief self-statement. I'm a Russian guy, 23, who currently is a graduate student at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, USA. Jumped to the US recently, I was amazed how not much people here know about modern European music and particular that originated from the Scandinavian region. Definetely, there is a lack of these musical sources here, while the record store shelves are overloaded with the teenage punk CDs. Moreover, it seems like there is a certain national subjective barrier which prevents Americans from understanding European music. The bands: The 3rd And The Mortal, Desire, The Gathering, Front 242, Die Krupps, Lacrimosa, Concrete Blonde, Metallica... Obviously, only 2 first bands above correlate with the focus of this maillist due to it's narrow geographical frame. Hope to know more from this list, though. -- Jett mailto:jett1@siu.edu ----------------------------- Date: Tue, 7 Oct 1997 01:05:16 +0200 From: Micke Rehnstrom Subject: Starmarket guitarist quit? Once again, nasty rumours reaches me. This time it is about one of my absolute favourite bands: Swedish popcore/punk-pop heroes STARMARKET. I have heard that their guitar player, Johan Sellman, is leaving the band. Can anyone verify whether this is true or not, and does anyone know what will happen in the future (both concerning STARMARKET and Johan)? I guess this will not mean a total collapse since he was not one of the most important songwriters in the band, though. /Micke, who likes the idea of re-releasing "Debaser" (THE PIXIES) on single, because it means he will not have to spend any time thinking about where to put his "best single of the year" vote. ----------------------------- Date: Tue, 7 Oct 1997 01:33:03 +0200 (MET DST) From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: Today's Selected News [06-Oct-97] -------------------------------------- Today's Selected News 971006 Received, gathered, processed, translated, compiled and sent today by: Erik Soderstrom (chief@lysator.liu.se) -------------------------------------- Today's good news in a bundle - that's right, right here, right now. * Blekingska Nationen in Lund --------------------------- Blekingska friday October 10th: INDIE REVIVAL (disco) In the latest issue ("vol 2 # 1") Pop decided that indie is OK again. I would REALLY like a bootleg of one of their concerts. If anyone has one, contact me so we can trade. I hope I'll see > you there! I was there. Yeah, the weekend when Fireside and Loosegoats where playing in my hometown Jonkoping AND my local soccer team (Tenhults IF) defeated league winners Linkoping and secured their 2nd place in div.3 I was in Goteborg instead of at home. Bad timing... oh well, at least I got to see BSAB. I've seen them before, in Emmaboda, and I just found them boring, arty and headache-provoking then, but I guess a hangover had a little something to do with that, because in GBG I thought they were pretty darn good, still a little too arty for my ears at times, but mostly they rocked. And smoked. I've never seen a band smoke that much on stage before! Man! Anyways, they were good and would have deserved a bigger audience, it wasn't too crowded at Underground. I guess the totally mad guard at the door scared a lot of people away... boy, was he scary... attacking people for no reason at all... I haven't seen anything like it before.. Er... that wasn't much of a review really, was it? Guess I'm not too good at reviewing. I'm not too good at shameless self promoting either but I'll give it a try: The band I'm in, Lousy, released a full length tape this summer, it's 14 songs/30 mins long and called "Electrolux". You can get it directly from us by sending 30 SEK to Lousy, Box 137, 560 27 TENHULT, SWEDEN. That's only for people living in Scandinavia though. If you live somewhere else drop me an e-mail and I'll give you a nice price in a neat currency. Thanks for reading. I guess I should've posted about that before the review in Sound Affects. :) Well, that's his opinion. BTW, he really liked the new Bloodhound Gang CD. :) Take care, Magnus - listening to the new amazingly beautiful album by Julie Doiron. PS - Am I the only one hearing a lot of Peter Gabriel in Fireside? yeah, you probably think I'm nuts - until the day they record a version of, for example, "Solsbury Hill". ----------------------------- Date: Tue, 7 Oct 1997 08:51:28 +0200 From: iggystooge.livevid@mailbox.swipnet.se Subject: rockbitch anyone that have heard anything about the tour with the english ex-whores band rockbitch? is it going to be a swedish tour at all? and does anyone know what they sound like? the article in the swedish rockmag close-up did tell a lot of things... but NOTHING about their music... j.nilsson ----------------------------- Date: Tue, 07 Oct 1997 16:39:05 +0200 From: Anton Sten Subject: Re: Starmarket guitarist quit? Johan has decided to move to Umea, and start/continuing his studies. I certainly hope they won't be doing a swedish tour, they were in every single dutch (music and other) magazine and on just about every tv- show (and about 2% of the space was devoted to any comments about their music...). And i probably won't survive going through that all again (i'm currently living in goteborg for a year as an exchange student). something different (but still not really scan-indie): does anybody know who will open for the prodigy at the scandinavium, goteborg next month. I believe the foo fighters will open in stockholm only and i heard some rumours about the Aphex Twin.... joris ----------------------------- End of SIN Digest #4.36 *********************** * To subscribe/unsubscribe to the Digest version of the list, send your request to: scan-indie-d-request@lysator.liu.se * To subscribe/unsubscribe to the Live version of the list, send your request to: scan-indie-request@lysator.liu.se * All messages to the Scandinavian Indie mailing list should be sent to: scan-indie@lysator.liu.se * The maintainer of both mailing lists is: chief@lysator.liu.se, and can also be reached at: owner-scan-indie@lysator.liu.se * The digests can also be found in ASCII format at ftp.lysator.liu.se /pub/texts/uxu/SID and ftp.uwp.edu /pub/music/lists/scan-indie as well as in HTML format at http://www.lysator.liu.se/~chief/sid.html
