I have received new news (??!) from their record company - NONS (I know Erik gets these news too, so he can confirm that I am not the one messing things up). The status is: Komeda DID go to the States (in five different aeroplanes!!) and they DID play in LA. This, in turn, means that they will NOT play in Uppsala tonight (all of this is probably too late to tell you by now, but what the heck). (Source: NONS) BTW, I am supposed to do a verbal presentation in my english course next week. I was thinking of doing something about the development of the situation for swedish indie record companies since the late 80s/early 90s, when these companies were (to a large extent) overtaken by majors, until today. If someone knows of articles that cover this topic - mail me at my personal address. /Micke, finally deciding to complete his REM collection (two albums to go) --------------------------------- Date: Fri, 11 Apr 1997 21:57:35 -0700 From: "Dave" Subject: Free Classifieds in Pandemonium Online Pandemonium Online, a Seattle-based music webzine, is now offering free classifieds. And when it is for such a great band, we just can't say no! Remembering the large number of animations and huge graphics on the last contest page, which meant a lengthy download time, we keep the web page version of the contest simple this time. This also goes for the contest question! Information To answer the contest question, you may need to check out some of the following pages. But even if you know the answer already, you might want to check them out, as they are filled with Fidget information! And you don't want to miss that, do you?! * Fidget Homepage http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/2976/index.html The band's official homepage made by a fan. It is filled with photos, sound clips, information and whatnot. It is located in the US so it may take a while to download, but keep trying - you'll succeed sooner or later. :-) * Scandinavian Indie Fidget Interview/Article http://www.lysator.liu.se/~chief/inter/fidgeint.html This is the original interview made about a year ago, which later appeared (though translated into swedish, heavily re-written and cut down to about a third) in the Swedish pop music magazine number one: Sound Affects Issue #32. * Scandinavian Indie Reviews of all their records http://www.lysator.liu.se/~chief/cdrev.html Here you'll find reviews of all their singles and the album, written by the Scandinavian Indie crew. * Scandinavian Indie Gig Guides http://www.lysator.liu.se/~chief/gigs.html Always worth to check out if you want to stay informed about who's playing where and when! * Scandinavian Indie Digest Archive http://www.lysator.liu.se/~chief/sid.html Everything ever posted since 1994 to the Scandinavian Indie Mailing List! * The last Scandinavian Indie Fidget contest http://www.lysator.liu.se/~chief/confidge.html Just in case you would like to see what you could win last time! What you must do! All you have to do is answer one single question. Yes, it is true. It is that easy! If you already know the answer, it is of course extremely simple, and if you don't, you'll probably find that it is just as easy if you check out the links above. All answers received before May 7th, 1997 will be placed in a hat, and Peter Ejheden from Mega Records will draw 10 (ten) lucky winners from it. All winners will, as usual, be presented here on the Scandinavian Indie Contest pages about ten days after the contest closes. The winners are of course contacted through e-mail as well. What you can win! Ten winners will receive the limited edition Fidget Kit which contains the following: * A copy of their debut CD single "Semi-naked"! * A copy of their second CD single "Stop Losing"! * A signed copy of their debut CD "No Boogie Coming Your way"! * A mini poster set (which really isn't "mini") with 6 different posters! Good Luck! Grass-show get **** (excellent) for Something Smells Good in Stinkville (they're not really indie, I know, but let's not quibble). "Matching The Cardigans and Popsicle for irrepressible melody... one power pop hit after another... homage paid to new wave-vintage Elvis Costello and XTC, 70s ELO rather than 60s Beatles, and echoes of 70s American bubblegummers The Raspberries and Rubinoos [I've never even heard of either of these -- what is this reviewer on? - Mo]... one of the most entertaining Britpop, new wave and Swedish pop albums you'll hear this year." Gus Gus also get **** for Polydistortion (on 4AD over here). "The now-generic smorgasbord of dance rhythms is treated with a relaxed irreverence... probably more by accident and design, Gus Gus admirably eschew Yankophile pretence in favour of a close cousin of the classic ealy-80s Factory label sound... extended lounge-core insouciance, wooshing ambience and serene, Bjorkian touches... in the place of the prankster mentality that spoilt The Sugarcubes for many is, at last, a new configuration for Icelandic pop." There's also a full-page ad (ie extremely serious money) for Stina Nordenstam's new album. Does this mean that this criminally under-rated artist is going to get a good crack of the whip in Britain at last? This is interesting, but not surprising. The band has spent more time in the UK than in Sweden. I'm not even sure they have toured in Sweden, or played at any festivals? Ah, I saw this one in a record store today, but didn't have time to listen to it. I've heard mixed things about it ("not as good as the remixes on their promos/singles" to "the best thing I've heard"), so I really want to listen to it before I make up my mind. While I'm at it - I also saw the new Wagon album - did anyone buy it yet? (needless to say, I didn't have the time to listen to it either) I'd really be interested in hearing what people think of it, as their earlier stuff had a touch of The Charlatans... > There's also a full-page ad (ie extremely serious money) for Stina > Nordenstam's new album. Does this mean that this criminally under-rated > artist is going to get a good crack of the whip in Britain at last? Hope > so. I really hope so - she's just brilliant IMHO. From what I can understand, she's got somewhat of a cult status in the US, though maybe the UK scene is more reluctant to "take her in" after she turned down The Chemical Brothers - which I for one think was a bad move. //Erik (chief@lysator.liu.se) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Apr 1997 21:38:02 +0200 (MET DST) From: chief@lysator.liu.se Subject: Sin's Music on the TV [18-Apr-97] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Scandinavian Indie MUSIC ON THE TV Scandinavian Indie April 18 -> April 24 by Erik Soderstrom (chief@lysator.liu.se) Day Date Artist/What TV Program Channel Time --- ----- ---------------------- ------------------- ----------- ----- Fri 18/4 Suede Live'n'Direct MTV Europe 18.30 R Sat 19/4 Damon Albarn En Kv{ll Med Luuk TV 4 16.30 R Oasis Unplugged MTV Europe 23.00 R Sun 20/4 No Doubt Musikbyr}n SVT 1 11.30 R Video Top List Toppen ZTV 17.15 Mon 21/4 Teenage Fanclub, Supergrass White Room ZTV 19.15 Latin Kings Present ZTV 21.00 Tue 22/4 Latin Kings Present ZTV 18.15 R Video Top List Toppen ZTV 19.15 R Musikmagasinet Musikmagasinet ZTV 20.00 Mark Owen Live'n'Direct MTV Europe 21.30 Alternative Nation Alternative Nation MTV Europe 00.00 Hotel Babylon Hotel Babylon TV 4 01.30 R Wed 23/4 Video Top List Voxpop SVT 1 19.20 Oasis Unplugged MTV Europe 00.00 R Thu 24/4 Finnish Top List Lista FTV 17.37 Video Top List Results Voxtopp SVT 1 18.55 En Kv{ll Med Luuk En Kv{ll Med Luuk TV 4 20.30 Musikmagasinet Musikmagasinet ZTV 20.30 R "En Kv{ll Med Luuk" is also broadcasted live on the Internet at the address: http://www.tv4.se/luuk R = Rerun ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This list is also available on the Scandinavian Indie WWW pages at: http://www.lysator.liu.se/~chief/uptv.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------- Date: Thu, 17 Apr 1997 21:37:44 +0200 (MET DST) From: chief@lysator.liu.se Subject: Sin's Music on the Radio [21-Apr-97] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scandinavian Indie MUSIC ON THE RADIO Scandinavian Indie April 21 -> 24 by Erik Soderstrom (chief@lysator.liu.se) Day Date Artist Recorded --- ----- -------------------------------- --------------------------------- Mon 21/4 Brainpool Malm|, KB *Live* Tue 22/4 Lars Winnerb{ck Stockholm, Mosebacke 25-Mar-97 Wed 23/4 East 17 (R) Stockholm, Cirkus 14-Jun-96 Thu 24/4 Sepultura (R) Stockholm, Sj|historiska 26-Jun-96 This list covers the Swedish National Channel P3's "Live" - at 21.03-22.00 or 18.03-19.00 where marked with a '*'. For those of you who don't know about this band, their music can best be described as a wilder Soundtrack of Our Lives with the roots in Stooges, MC5 and other bands like those. But the best description is, of course, the title of their debut album: "Kamikaze Rockn Roll". Heavy, tight and aggressive guitars made sure no-one's ear drums staid conscious. The vocalist, L-P Andersson, was all over the place: stage-diving, dancing through the audience, standing on the bass-drum, standing on the loud-speakers or lying on the stage floor. There were two victims during the gig: one guitar amplifier (which L-P accidentally poured some beer in) and one bass guitar (which its owner decided to smash against the floor before leaving the stage). Definitely a night to remember. /Micke ---------------------------------- Date: Sat, 19 Apr 1997 11:24:20 +0200 From: Torsvall Subject: Trastockfestivalen Does anyone know the dates for this year's festival? Hi there All i can say about E.F. is that they are playing in Ludvika at a festival called Underground Art & Noise on the 10th of May. That's the only gig in Sweden that they will play, i just talked to one of the guys at Art & Noise and he confirmed that. allfn@algonet.se (LordMagus) --------------------------------- Date: Sun, 20 Apr 1997 23:21:23 +0100 From: Rami Nihlawi Subject: Tuesday: Sandy Lyle Hi! I certainly understand why some of these bands haven't been able to obtain record deals. But the spanish bands are certainly among the better ones (as is, of course, The Wellmeant). /Micke ------------------------------- Date: Tue, 22 Apr 1997 05:20:58 +0200 (MET DST) From: chief@lysator.liu.se Subject: Re: Cry(-ing for a shadow) On Sat, 19 Apr 1997, Petter Tiilikainen wrote about: Cry(-ing for a shadow) > Cry's from Gothenburg, they seem to be a great live band, their album > is a bit uneven at times, but all in all it's reccomendable. It's really good to see that all the newspapers pick up this story, though when all of them write different things about it, it starts to look like a joke. Aftonbladet wrote for instance that they had about 100 songs ready for the english releases. Some have called them "Bob Dog" while others (including ZTV) say they're called "International Bob". Another article said that "International Bob" was a working name and that nothing was decided yet. I guess we'll all know what the real deal is soon enough though. //Erik (chief@lysator.liu.se) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Apr 1997 05:20:34 +0200 (MET DST) From: chief@lysator.liu.se Subject: Re: Trastockfestivalen On Sat, 19 Apr 1997, Torsvall wrote about: Trastockfestivalen > Does anyone know the dates for this year's festival? Therefor, the band has decided on not one, but two winners! They have also added another item to the list of prizes! Which one of the two winners' title suggestions that will be used in the end is still not decided. Both titles will perhaps be used for two separate records, though whatever happens, you will know about it! * The winners! The first winner is: _Martina Ledin_ from Hagersten in Sweden Title suggestion: _No more 24_ Twigs Comments: FINN: Morten will turn 24 soon, and Per Steinar just turned 24, so this suggestion must come from someone who can look into the future!!!!!!! KATY: Much of the lyrics deal with the things many people find at the end of their 20's. This is therefor a suitable title. Second winner: _Mikko Riikonen_ from Kouvola in Finland Title suggestion: _Super Melon_ Twigs Comments: Say no more!!!!!!! This is what the package you can expect to find in the mail in the very near future contains: * A copy of their brilliant debut album "Beast" on CD! * The cool Twigs t-shirt in yellow with the "Twigs" logo on the front. * A copy of their next and upcoming album (which You named)! * PLUS! Their new and even cooler Twigs t-shirt!
