I've heard they sound like "Trashmen / Dummies" I'm not an expert on The Idyls, so I guess there can be people on this list that might be able to give you some more info. But maybe I can give you some help. I think that Idyls is a band from Linkoping. At least they come from somewhere in this neighbourhood. I saw them this summer, as opening act when Broder Daniel performed at Skylten in Linkoping. They didn't really sound like Broder Daniel, though. I haven't heard the bands you mentioned, but I would describe their music as some kind of american-influenced "not-to-serious" punk-pop. They built their performance around some sort of jungle theme, with monkey imitations and bananas thrown at the audience (didn't Union Carbide do that in the 80's?). I also noticed that they didn't use a bass guitar, they used maracas instead!! Guess this wasn't much of a help. As I said, maybe someone else can tell us some more about the Idyls. Right now I look forward very much to the debut (mini-)album from another Linkoping band - The Pusjkins. If it sounds as good as their performance as the opening act for The Posies did, I would advice everyone on the list to give it an ear (or two). /Micke ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jan 1997 20:33:30 +0200 (EET) From: Timo Riitamaa Subject: Finnhits again I'm sitting here amid huge piles of paper and email due to all kinds of strange things like school and extraterrestrial beings. i have misplaced the adresses of Erik and Mo. send 'em to me, so i'll get the tapes going. About the video: Wasn't too impressed by the video, though it's pretty funny at times. And Tobbe was right about the beard thing. :-) Another thing I also meant to say was that I'm disappointed with the version of "Semi-Naked" on their CD single. It's really not at all as good as it is on their demo (and the 7" promo single) - it has definitely been "over-produced" or something. So the lucky winners of the 7" single in the Scan-Indie Fidget contest (and those on the Scan-Indie Swedish Indie tape chain) will actually have / have the best version in their hands. If you ask me. Hopefully the re-mix of the album now will take care of the strange first production. The CD single version of "Teddybear Baby" on the other hand is a gem. And if you get a chance to see the band live, that's when they sound the best, with added long guitar-orgasmic heaven ends.
